Our Start-Up Story

We started Southeastern Insurance Services, Inc. in Chesapeake, Virginia because our founder, Dave Comey, believed that insurance sold by a corporate broker measuring every marketing call and every expense dollar spent still missed the point. Dave had managed offices for one of the largest national brokers in the country, and while that world taught him plenty about scale, it also taught him what happens to a client when they stop being a name and start being a number. So, he left that world behind. We built our agency on a simple idea: if you take care of the customer, the growth and the margins take care of themselves. That idea has carried us through seventeen years in Hampton Roads, and it still shapes every account we write today.

What Makes Us Different

We are a commercial focused agency with a horizontal structure, and we consider that our biggest advantage. The members of our team are professionals that have dedicated themselves to understanding commercial insurance and how it can respond to the unique risk-exposures faced by our business clients. It is the focus of our training, education and years of experience. Our agency structure creates great teamwork through open communication and fast decision making, which in turn allows for the best
service for our clients. We do not put you through a call center. When you call us, you reach the person who knows your account and your staff, and we value that relationship. We will always be competitive, consultative, and honest about the tradeoff between price and service. It comes down to a simple promise we hold ourselves to: we do what we say we’re going to do.

Southeastern Insurance Services, Inc. is led by Dave and Justin Comey alongside a team of professionals that handle every account personally rather than passing clients through a rotating cast of service reps. We are a commercial agency, focused on small, mid-market, and larger businesses throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Our lines of business include property, general liability, workers’ compensation, and cyber liability, along with builders’ risk, contractors’ equipment, professional liability, marine and maritime, flood, and special events coverage. We are built to serve the business owner.

Rooted in Hampton Roads

We are proud to call Hampton Roads home, and our roots in Chesapeake run seventeen years deep. We built Southeastern Insurance Services to be a resource; a place business owners can call when they need real answers rather than an automated menu.
